The awe-inspiring Kerala Mural from 8th century is unparalleled in its sharpness, symmetry and ethereal beauty which make the temples, palaces and churches of Kerala visual treat wherein the sagas of ancient Hindu mythology, Biblical stories and Epics unfold.

Kerala Murals are dominated with bright natural pigments of saffron-red, saffron-yellow, green, black colors . Characters depicted in Kerala Murals convey an emotion or a bond and hence facial features are of great importance in this form of art.


Kerala Mural - Dancing Ganesha

We are pleased to announce an introduction to Kerala Mural folk art, a course of 3 classes. With no prior painting/drawing experience required, this will be a guided session by Kerala Mural artist. So let's celebrate murals and take part in the artistic tradition of Kerala.

During this session, you will draw a portrait of Dancing Ganesha and learn about
1. Panchavarna Colours scheme
2. Color sequencing, blending and shading techniques of Kerala murals using acrylic colors.
3. Highlighting facial expression and gestures.
4. Complete a bright and colorful Kerala Mural artwork.

* Seats are limited to maintain small-group of participants to ensure personal attention from the trainer. Please book in advance.


Materials Required

- A4 (8.5 x11 inch) size thick drawing paper (200 GSM or more). You may use Canvas if your hand is steady and can use brush for finelining too.

- A set of Acrylic Colors or Poster Color (golden yellow, dark orange, light orange, brown, dark green, light green, black , white, pink, red). Good to have Artist quality acrylic colors.

- Black permanent fine tip pen - used for outlining. You can use microtip or pigment pen if you have.

- Round Brush (size 0,1,2, 4 or 5 or 6). To color Background flat brush - 2 (size 6 or 5 or 4 and size 2 or 3).

- Pallet, water and rough cloth

- Pencil, scale, erasers.

- 2-3 rough drawing paper for practice.

Monali Mohanty is founder of Rang which is specialized in Folk art work, hand painted customized home and office decor and utility products. She is based out of Mumbai and Biotechnologist by education. Art is her true calling, so she has been opted for a full-time career in promoting traditional and folk art forms of India. She has been teaching folk art for more than 5 years and is a highly appreciated teacher.
