Tucked up inside the Western Ghats in the Shimoga District of Karnataka, the Sharavathi river descends in four distinct waterfalls, spectacular Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket. Raja, the 2nd highest waterfall in India in a single sheer column of 830 ft high is absolute delight to the eyes as you see water falling from such a great height and dashing on rocks. With the onset of monsoon, valleys and hills of western ghat turn into beautiful verdant sanctuaries, with rivers coming to life and flowing in full vigor. The roaring Jog falls is a stunning sight to behold when gushing in with its glory during the monsoon months.

We will board Talaguppa Express from Bangalore SBC in the late evening. It is overnight journey from Bangalore to Talaguppa, but we won't let you get bored for a moment. We will have lot of fun activities, antakshari, etc. which will get you back to your old days in Indian Railway.
In the early morning around 7:00 AM we shall reach Talaguppa, small and quaint town of Malnad. There’s lush greenery as far as the eye can see and the hillside is dotted with small streams and paddy fields making for a beautiful view. We shall proceed to Homestay - a secluded retreat situated in the lush green Malnad region of Western Ghats.
After breakfast, explore the vast, tranquil estate. You will love just seating and spending time because the hustle and bustle of city life doesn’t penetrate here. Later, we will go for a nature walk in 10 acres plantation of cardamom, banana, vanilla, pepper, coconuts, coffee, mangoes etc. Enjoy delicious home-cooked traditional lunch at the planter’s home. In the evening enjoy bonfire and conversation with your new friends over coffee. Go back to your childhood days playing carom, chess, badminton or Cricket. After a delicious Malnad cuisine for dinner sleep well in the tranquil land.After breakfast, we would visit the country’s 2nd highest waterfall - Jog Falls. Monsoon’s cloud-laden skies, surrounding lush green hills, cascading milky white water - a spectacular sight that nobody should ever miss. The pleasant climate and dense forests are all too hard to resist. we shall stop at different viewpoints to admire this majestic waterfall from different angles.
We shall proceed to 'Jungle Lodge and Resort' situated on a hillock on the bank of Sharavathi River. We would stay in sprawling cottages, on mountain slopes, overlooking majestic Sharavathi River and lake formed by Linganmakki Dam. The Lake, dotted with beautiful islands, rich in flora and fauna, boasts of splendid views of the sunrise and sunset. It is also one of the prettiest man-made lakes of Karnataka.
Post lunch, we would go for nature walk and Bird-watching. The resort and the surrounding islands attract a wide variety of winged visitors. Common birds sighted are Kingfishers, Indian peafowl, Hoopoes, Hornbills, Pond herons, Grey headed bulbuls and Cormorants. Several varieties of butterflies can be found in the vicinity of the resort. Mammals like the Black-naped hare, Common langurs and Malabar giant squirrels are found here. Relax at the resort and enjoy the serene view of Sharavathi river flanked by green foliage - a magical sunset over the lake.
Note: The JLR Sharavati cottages are on slopes, need climbing stairs to reach rooms. Please consider this, if you have severe knee issue and walking difficulties.
After breakfast, we enjoy various adventure activities such as coracle ride, boating and kayaking in the Sharavathi river.
Post lunch we will proceed to the historic city Keladi and Ikkeri erstwhile capital of the Keladi Nayakas during 1500 AD. We shall visit magnificent 16th century temples - Rameswaram temple and Aghoreshvara (one of the several names of Lord Shiva) built in Hoysala-Dravidian style. The ceiling of the temple is made of wooden panels, on which numerous lotus flowers are carved. No two lotus flowers are same, each is slightly different from others. Temple walls and elegant tall pillars are adorned with exquisite sculpture. In the evening we will have an early dinner and then we reach Sagar railway station and return back with serene memories of Malnad nature and heritage. You will reach back Bangalore next day early morning.
