Wedged between the Western Ghats on the East and the Arabian Sea on the West, the narrow strip of land known as Kerala is a destination of a lifetime. Spending couple of days here you will discover the secrets of Kerala - lush green hill stations, serene backwaters, pristine beaches, wildlife sanctuaries, tea estates, spice gardens and the cultural heritage of Kerala - Kathakali and Kalarippayattu.
Board flight from home-town and reach Kochi Airport by morning/noon hours by 1 PM and proceed to Fort Kochi, where we shall stay in a Heritage Dutch Bunglow, which was built by the Dutch East India Company and it still retains the quaint yet rustic charm of the bygone day.
In the afternoon, around 3 PM, embark on a 'Tuk-tuk tour' of Fort Kochi when you will visit some of the famous architectural landmarks of Kochi - St. Francis Church and Santa Cruz Basilica. Proceed to Dutch Palace which was built by the Portuguese and presented to the Raja of Cochin in 1555 A.D. The palace is well known for the mural paintings representing scenes from the epics Ramayana and Mahabharatha, adorning its walls. Visit Jewish Synagogue or the Paradesi Synagogue built in 1568 by the Malabar Yehudan people or Cochin Jewish community in the Kingdom of Cochin. Spend evening watching sunset on the Fort Kochi beach lined with Chinese Fishing Nets. We shall attend spectacular performance of Kathakali in the evening.
Kathakali Dance Performance: Kerala is the home of several traditional dance and dance - drama forms, the most notable being Kathakali. Kathakali is a blend of dance, music and acting and dramatizes stories, which are mostly adapted from the Indian epics - Ramayana and Mahabharata.
Post breakfast, drive down to the beautiful backwater of Alleppey to discover the most fascinating 'Water World on Earth', home to a vast network of waterways and more than 1000 houseboats, along Kerala's largest lake Vembanad Lake.
Upon reaching, check-in to a beautiful houseboat and embark on a tour of Vembanad Lake, float around in the splendour of the sparkling water and enjoy a memorable evening in the mesmerizing beauty of the setting sun. Spend some time gazing at graceful and greenery-fringed village life along the banks. Wondering around the small and serene villages, meandering canals and rivers, you will undoubtedly agree to the sobriquet - Venice of the East, earned by Alappuzha. In the evening, indulge in a medley of flavour during your dinner time.
In the morning hour, enjoy the serenity of lake paradise and breathtaking views of the serene backwaters. Post an authentic kerala style breakfast, proceed towards Munnar which is around 3 hour drive through enthralling waterfalls, lakes and tea plantation. In the afternoon, we will reach Munnar, a haven of peace and tranquility, means three rivers and the town is located at the confluence of 3 mountain streams - Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. Post check in to the hotel, enjoy leisure time.
In the morning you will discover yourself in the misty morning of Munnar. Today we will visit some of the famous sightseeing places around Munnar.
Tea Gradens: Walk through the Tea plantations and enjoy the view of lash green mountains around you.
Tea Factory: The museum set up at the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea in Munnar is a tribute to the toils and rigours of its pioneers, who showed utmost determination to transform Munnar into a major tea plantation centre of Kerala. Know about various stages of tea processing and making of green and black tea.
Mattupetty Dam: On one side is the calm reservoir and on the other one can hear the roar of the waters as it plummets into the dense valley. You can go for a river boating in the beautiful lake.
Today, post breakfast by 10 am morning, we shall drive down to Kochi. We will stop for a tour of spice garden. From the historical time Munnar is an important trade center for spice for which Portuguese, Dutch, and British invaded our land for years. Upon reaching Kochi, proceed to hotel near Kochi Airport for check in.
Today, after morning breakfast, we will proceed towards airport to board flight back to home. Bid good bye to your new friends and take with you the memories of mesmerizing Kerala.
