Detail Itinerary

  • Welcome to a rich colonial heritage

The throbbing metropolis, Colombo - located in the Western coast - is not only the country's commercial capital, but also is a potpourri of races, religions and cultures. The city is a contrast itself, with mansions, lush gardens, fine dining options, shopping malls packed with expensive designer brands standing next to urban homes.

Arrive Colombo by noon hour. After clearing your immigration from airport, drive to reach Hotel located on the shore of Indian ocean and a pristine lagoon. Check in and enjoy serenity of the resort while meeting new friends.

  • Art and Nirvana at the Golden Temple

Post breakfast, proceed to Dambulla and on the way visit Pinnawala - 25 acre elephant sanctuary. Do not be surprised to witness baby elephants being bottle fed or moving around freely causing absolutely no harm to anyone. It is rightly a sincere sight to observe how these gentle giants - orphaned and sometimes three-legged - are taken care of since 1975.

Golden Temple of Dambulla, an Unesco World Heritage Site, is home to the Worlds most acclaimed cave complex of magnificent Buddha images and rock paintings of vivid colours and shapes. Almost every surface of the caves are painted with striking patterns and Buddhist murals in shades of red, yellow and white, many related to Gautama Buddha and his life. Some mention Vishu and Ganesha, too. Within the cave of the Great Kings, over 1,500 paintings of Buddha cover the ceiling. There are also 157 statues standing, sitting or lying throughout the caves. For thousands of years, these paintings and statues have been protected and preserved by monks.

In the evening proceed to Hotel, enjoy dinner and good sleep.

  • An Ancient City, Frescoes and Sky Palace

Post early breakfast, in the morning hour climb Sigiriya - the famous 'Lion Rock' fortress. Rising from the central plains, the iconic rocky outcrop of Sigiriya is perhaps Sri Lanka's single most dramatic sight. Built over 1500 years ago, this beautiful citadel stands 200 meters high in the middle of verdant jungle and was an important stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. You'll be able to view the world famous paintings of the Heavenly Maidens which stand in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. If you do not intend to climb the rock fortress, you may enjoy leisure time at Hotel.

Post lunch, go for village tour experience traditional Sri Lanka with all its authenticity. Spend time with the villagers and understand their lifestyles, their culture. Got for an oxen cart ride, a old-style catamaran ride and a walk through the fields. Return back to hotel for dinner and good night sleep.

  • The Pearl of Sri Lanka

Post breakfast, proceed to Kandy, the last capital of the Buddhist kingdom. Lying amidst the mist-shrouded hills of the central part of the island, Kandy is a proud reminder of battles won. Having graciously retained identity and charm against attacks by invading Europeans, it is a hub of arts, religion and culture.

Experience an ancient Kandyan legacy engraved around its crown jewel - the Temple of the sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. Spend evening at Kandy City Centre - bundled with an souvenir shops, arts and crafts center, as well as a gem museum and attend a Srilankan Cultural Show. Kandy is an exciting place for shopping with souvenirs of wood, copper, silver, brass, bronze, Ceramics and lacquer work.

  • The Little English Town and that Fresh smell of Tea

After breakfast, embark on the most scenic road of Sri Lanka from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya - the colonial hill station. As we climb up the hills, and slopes around us will start to transform into tea plantations, filled with people plucking and cultivating tea leaves. The air is different, and the scenery will make you more lazy, slouchy, and more relaxed. We will step into a tea factory to observe the hissing and swishing of Tea leaves. Take a tour of the weigh station, drying room, rolling room, bake room, cutting room, and packing room. The smells in the various rooms are incredible. Enjoy the beautiful scenery with a delicious cup of tea.

On the way we shall stop at Temples of Bhakta Hanuman and Sita Amman related to the legends of epic Ramayana. Once we reach the Little England, Nuwara Eliya, we shall check in to the Hill resort amidst greenery. Spend rest of your evening enjoying the colonial heritage of British era.

  • The Secluded Beach Paradise

Feeling rejuvenated by our quiet walks in the Hill country, we will head towards the southern coast of the island. The scenery will change from the greens and browns to the sparkling shades of blues as we drive by coastal towns. Bentota quite spectacularly, is our secluded beach paradise to end the trip with a relaxing beach vacation. Spend your afternoons by the beautiful pool at the resort and the evening at the beach catching the most glorious colours of the setting sun.

  • An Unmissable Indian Ocean

Spend your morning by the beach walking along the soft, white sand and picking up sea shells. If you love water adventure, try banana boat, water scooter and parasailing.

Proceed to a river safari through the pristine mangrove forest of Madu Ganga river. A 1.5 hour boat safari through the lagoons, lake, canals of the mangrove forest will let you experience the unique and spectacular biodiversity of Sri Lanka. Post lunch, proceed to turtle hatchery. In the afternoon, proceed back to the beautiful sea-side resort at Bentota and enjoy your evening at leisure.

  • Wandering around the streets of Colombo

Post breakfast embark on a city tour of Colombo. Proceed to Kalania Temple - Buddhists believe the temple have been hallowed during the third and final visit of the Lord Buddha to Sri Lanka, eight years after gaining enlightenment. The temple is famous for reclining Gautama Buddha and mural paintings and frescos on important events in the life of the Buddha.

Visit Gangarama - a bustling temple complex with library, a museum, Bodhi Tree and eclectic array of jewel, Buddha replica and gilded gifts presented from around the world. Admire beautiful artifacts made with intricate ivory and wooden carving. The temple museum proudly houses the smallest Buddha statue on the island, carefully encased in a glass box, which visitors can view with a magnifying class.

Head along historic way post, the Independence Square - every designer boutique, top-notch cuisine outlet and even the 'walkover fish tank', have revamped this colonial masterpiece into one of the trendiest shopping and hangout zones in Sri Lanka. Enjoy your evening at leisure.

They have planned the trip in a very leisurely and convenient for the elderly people. The selection of the tourist places, hotels, restaurants, guide, the vehicle is just flawless and commendable. We had an energetic, enthusiastic, young and lovely tour manager. She takes care of everyone, talking to us personally, serving snacks and tea, capturing nice pics. She makes everyone feel at home. • Lolita Roy Kolkata My husband Bijoy and I joined this group for our first trip with 50 + Voyagers to Sri Lanka. Well, to come to the point directly, we are so glad we found this traveller's club on FB ! Everything went as per plan and expectatipns, on our trip to Sri Lanka thanks to the untiring efforts and caring ways of the Tour Guide and Leader. Kudos to 50+ Voyagers for giving the elderly citizens, often single too, this avenue to travel and explore in conditions best suited to their age and stage in life. We wish 50+ the very best for the future. May that grow from strength to strength. Needless to say, we hope to join them on many more exciting and enjoyable trips in the future.
  • Reena Banerjee Ahmedabad One of the best things to happen in my life is, to come across 50+ Voyagers Travel and Adventure Club. I had a wonderful experience travelling with them to Sri Lanka. This was a very well organized and comfortable trip where the elderly people can enjoy and have a great time together. The arrangements, accommodation etc. was excellent. The best thing is, single ladies like me, who love to travel, do not have to worry about company. This travel company has a combination of single men, women and couples too. This trip also gave me an opportunity to meet people from different states of India. By the end of the trip, it was hard to say that just a week back we did not know each other. Actually, we met as strangers, but parted as friends. At such a young age, our tour guide's cool temperament and patience is worth appreciating. This was surely one of my best holidays. I look forward to holiday with 50+ Voyagers again.
