During morning/noon hours, arrive by flight/train to Madurai where heritage temples, elegant gardens and enshrouding atmosphere add life to the majestic ambience of the 2500 years old city. From Madurai railway station/ airport, proceed towards hotel for check-in. Around 4:00 PM, we shall proceed to visit astonishing Meenakshi Sundareshvara Amman - twin temple in the evening.
Shiva in his incarnation as Sundareshwarar and his fish-eyed spouse, Meenakshi, are enshrined in this twin temple. There are four massive gateways enclosing these two temples. Facing the shrine of Sundareshwarar is the lavishly embellished 'Pudu Mandapam', also known as 'Vasantha Mandapam'. On each of the pillars, is represented Shiva in his various manifestations. To the south of the main shrine dedicated to Shiva, is the temple of Goddess Meenakshi. The porch leading to the temple is called "Ashta Shakti Mandapam' on account of the eight Shakti Goddesses figured therein.
After seeking blessings of goddess, visit Thousand Pillar hall, largest mandapam in the Temple complex and idol of Chira Sabha of Lord Nataraja, at the centre of the mandapam.
Rest of the evening you may enjoy at the temple town at your leisure and do shopping. Return back to Hotel for dinner and good night sleep.
Post breakfast gear up to excite your soul to travel to Kanyakumari, named after goddess Devi Kanya Kumari, considered to be a sister of Krishna. Upon reaching Kanyakumari check in to the hotel and have lunch.
In the afternoon, proceed to Vivekananda Rock, where the philosopher Swami Vivekananda came to meditate and legend says that he swam in rough to reach the rock. We will take a ferry boat from Kanyakumari beach to Vivekanda Rock where Swami Vivekananda sat on meditation for two days and later a temple with magnificent architecture was built. From the rock, admire the sangam of Bay-of-Bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean. You will also see Thiruvalluvar Statue ( visit to this island is subject to high tide timing) - which is a 133 feet tall stone sculpture of Tamil poet and philosopher Tiruvalluvar who is author of Thirukkura. Return to hotel for dinner and good night sleep.
Once morning sun peaks over the horizon, enjoy sun rise from the privacy of your room. You may go for a darshan of 3000 year old Kumari Amman temple which is dedicated to Virgin Goddess Kanyakumari. The idol made of blue stone, is believed to have installed by sage Parshurama.
Post breakfast, spend some time on the beach and the local market at your leisure. You may visit, Gandhi memorial, The architectural style of Gandhi Mandapam resembles that of Odisha temples. The height of the central dome is 79 feet, representing Gandhi’s age when he died.
Proceed to Rameswaram. On the way, have lunch and visit Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's Samadhi and Pamban bridge an engineering marvel, India’s first sea bridge. Upon reaching Rameswaram, check in to the hotel and take good rest post dinner.

According to legend, after killing Ravana, Lord Rama returned with his consort Goddess Seetha to India first stepping on the shores of Rameswaram. To expiate the dosha of killing a Brahmin, Lord Rama wanted to offer worship to Lord Shiva. Since there was no shrine in the island , Lord Rama made a lingam of sand and worshipped it.After soaking yourself in the spiritual aura of Lord Shiva, visit ancient town of Dhanushkodi, where according to Ramayana, Lord Rama built a bridge called Ram Setu between the mainland and Sri Lanka. After Rama won the war and crowned Vibhishana as the new king of Lanka on his request Rama decided to destroy the bridge with one end of his bow. Hence, the place came to be known as Dhanushkodi or 'end of the bow' (dhanush meaning 'bow' and kodi meaning 'end'). Enjoy the picturesque beauty of Dhanushkodi, the land's end of India, watch sunset of Indian ocean and spend some time on the beach at your leisure.
In the morning post breakfast, we shall proceed to a quaint little town which is declared as a 'Heritage Town'. Home of Chettinad cuisine, Karaikudi’s history was established around the 18th century when the Chettiars - a trading community emboldened by the wealth gathered through trade with many South East Asian countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Burma, etc, built huge palatial homes that were adorned with artifacts and materials imported from far and wide - intricate carvings on Burmese teak wood, Italian marbles, Belgium mirrors.
Enjoy delicious Chettinad cuisine. In the afternoon, we would have tour of Chettinadu village. Be greeted by magnificent, intricately-carved teak door and glazed ceramic ceiling as soon as we step in a Chettinad mansion. Experience the glorious past and well-preserved culture of Chettinad. Visit a weaver’s colony just outside Karaikudi. Traditionally, Karaikudi saris were hand-woven in cotton, and colored with black, red and yellow vegetable dyes, creating a mesmerizing rainbow of saris.
Post breakfast, proceed to Thanjavur, capital of great Chola empire who expanded their culture, architecture, crafts and religion from Madurai to Mekong. We shall visit, 1000 years old Brihadiswara Temple, one of the most prized example of magnificent Dravidian architecture. The temple, a UNESCO World Heritage monument is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is made of hard granite stones. The 'vimana' - or the temple tower is 66 m high, is one of the tallest in India. The temple has a massive corridors and one of the largest Shiva lingas in India. The exterior wall is beautifully decorated with 81 carvings of various postures of Bharatanatyam, a classical dance of India.
Spend time in Thanjavur Maratha palace and Chola art gallery where you will see an unique collection of Tanjore painting.Post breakfast, proceed to Tiruchirappalli on the bank of holi river Kavery. Visit Ranganathaswamy temple which is foremost of the eight self-manifested shrines (Swayam Vyakta Kshetras) of Lord Vishnu. The massive temple town spans across 156 acres, sorrounded by 7 walls and 21 magnificant gopurams. The walls of the Temple complex are painted with exquisite Fresco and Mural paintings using herbal and vegetable dyes. The temple complex is architecturally astounding with a wide range of sculptures, and highly ornate, and developed over centuries with contributions from various rulers and dynasties, all captivated by the spirituality, beauty and serenity of the place. Moreover, the size and scale of the Complex are unprecedented and make it the largest functioning temple complex in the world.
